When an estimate is shared with [an adjuster or collaborator](/docs/collaboration/share-links), the questions land where they belong: on the line item.

## How comments work

Anyone with the collaborator link — and your own team in the workspace — can start a thread on a line item. A mark appears in the canvas gutter next to commented lines; click it to open the comments drawer, read the thread, and reply.

When a question is settled, **resolve** the thread. Resolved threads stay in the drawer's history and can be reopened if the question comes back.

## Knowing something's waiting

On the estimates list, a row with new comment activity shows a pulsing corner dot — so an adjuster's question from last night doesn't sit unnoticed until you happen to open that estimate.

## Comments vs. notes

- **Comments** are conversation — questions and answers between people, never on the document.
- **[Line-item notes](/docs/estimates/add-note-to-line-item)** are documentation — they print on the PDF.
- **[Internal notes](/docs/collaboration/internal-notes)** are team-private context on the whole job.

A useful pattern: an adjuster asks in a comment, you answer, and the durable part of the answer becomes the line's note.
