Troubleshooting & FAQ
Known issues and workarounds
A short list of the things in Wave that don't behave the way you'd expect, plus the workaround. We update this page as we find and fix issues.
A short, honest list of things in Wave that can surprise you the first time. Most of these are by design; the workaround is knowing what's happening.
The estimate is locked and I can't edit
While Wave is responding to a message, it briefly locks the estimate and a banner appears. This prevents your edit and Wave's edit from colliding.
Workaround: Wait for Wave to finish, or press the stop square (the send arrow turns into it while Wave is working) to stop the response. The lock lifts as soon as Wave is done. If someone locked the estimate on purpose, unlock it from the command palette (⌘K / Ctrl+K). See Lock and unlock an estimate.
The status changed and I didn't change it
While Wave is still building an estimate, it may update the status itself as work progresses (for example, marking it Completed when the scope is done). The app shows a one-time note about this the first time it happens.
Workaround: Nothing is wrong. If the status isn't what you want, change it from the command palette or the estimates list. See Change an estimate's status.
Voice recording stopped before I finished
Voice recording has a 90 second limit per take, and the waveform changes color when you are getting close. If you talk past the limit, the recording ends before you do.
Workaround: Record in short takes. The transcription drops into the message box for review before sending, so you can record, check the text, record again, and send when the message is complete. See Voice input.
Wave stopped responding on a completed estimate (free trial)
On the free trial, after an estimate is completed you can send up to 5 follow-up chat messages on it. After that, Wave won't take further chat requests on that estimate.
Workaround: Manual edits on the estimate canvas are not limited, so you can still change anything by hand. For unlimited follow-up chat, upgrade to a paid plan. See Plans and limits.
When you hit something not on this list
Contact support. We use the messages we get through in-app support to decide what to fix and what to document, so reporting an issue actually moves the needle.
