Rename a room

Keep room names matching what the carrier expects to see. Rename any room in one click, and the new name updates everywhere, including the exported PDF.

Rename a room so the estimate uses the label your carrier expects, for example "Powder Room" instead of "Hall Bathroom". You do it on the estimate itself: open Jobs, open the job, and go to the Estimates tab.

How to rename a room

On desktop, two paths give the same result:

  • Click the room title once. The name becomes editable inline. Type the new name and press Enter (Esc cancels).
  • Right-click the room header and choose Edit room name. A Rename room window opens with a Room name field. Type the new name and save.

On a phone, tap the room title. The same Rename room window opens.

The right-click menu also has Delete room. The Room actions menu on the right of the header (⋮) has Move up, Move down and Delete room.

When renaming isn't available

Renaming is available once these conditions are met:

  • No photos or drying log use the room. If they do, Wave tells you why and changes nothing. Deleting a room follows the same photo and drying log rule.
  • No other room has that name (in the same unit, on a multi-unit estimate).
  • The estimate is unlocked. See Lock and unlock an estimate.
  • Wave has finished its reply. If Wave is working on the estimate, wait for it to finish, then try again.

The General section

The General section holds the job-wide line items that aren't tied to a specific room. It keeps its name and has no right-click menu.

General starts at the top of the estimate. You can drag it to another position, or use Move up and Move down in its Room actions menu. See Reorder rooms and line items.

What stays the same

Renaming changes the label and nothing else:

  • The room header updates on the estimate.
  • The label updates everywhere it appears, including the exported PDF.
  • Line items stay exactly as they were.
  • The room's size stays the same. To change square footage, tell Wave the dimensions in chat.

If the room has different surfaces and scope, add it as a new room so Wave can price it, then move or delete the old one.

Rooms in multi-unit estimates

When an estimate spans multiple units, same-named rooms in different units are labeled with their unit in menus, so you can see which one you're working on. See Estimate a multi-unit loss.
