Jobs & Timeline
The Jobs board
See your active jobs at a glance, one column per status. Drag a card to move a job, filter to the work you care about, rename statuses to fit your team, or just tell Wave what to move.
The Jobs board gives your team a live picture of its work. Open it with Jobs in the top bar. Each active job appears as a card in the column for its status, showing the job's name, loss type, address and when it last changed. Click a card to open the job.

Wave also keeps the board current for you: when a job's first estimate starts and finishes, the job moves forward on its own.
The statuses
On the far left, Assigned to me shows your own active jobs, newest activity first. It's your personal view: each of those cards also sits in its status column, which is where you move it. After it come the status columns, followed by a Cancelled column at the end:
- New: no estimate started yet.
- Pending: the job is waiting before an estimate starts.
- Estimating: the job's first estimate is underway.
- In Progress: the work is underway. Your team moves jobs here.
- Completed: the job's first estimate is finished, or your team marked the job done.
Each column header shows how many jobs are in that status. In a long column, use the button at the bottom to load more cards.
Make the statuses your own
Your board can match the way your team works, and anyone on your team can change it.
- Click a column's title to rename it or move it left or right.
- Use + Add column after the last status to add one of your own. You can add up to 5.
- A status you added can be deleted once it is empty.
Status names and order are shared by your whole company. Hiding a column (below) is just your own view.
Move a job to another status
Choose whichever way is fastest:
- Drag the card to another column, or to a new spot in the same column.
- Select several jobs. Hold Shift and drag across empty board space to select a group, then drag the group. A plain drag on empty space pans a wide board.
- Use the keyboard. Tab to the board, then:
- Arrow keys select a card.
- Shift + arrow adds the next card to the selection.
- ⌘ + arrow (Ctrl + arrow) moves the selected jobs one column left or right, or up and down within the column.
- Esc clears the selection.
- Use the job's status control. Inside a job, the status control in the header shows the current status. Click it and pick a status under Job status.
- Tell Wave. Type something like "move the Park job to In Progress" in the command box on Home or at the bottom of the board. Telling Wave works with the built-in statuses. To move a job into a status you added, use the board.
On a phone, the statuses stack in one list. Press and hold a card, then drag it to another status. The status control inside a job is available on desktop, so on a phone use the board or tell Wave.
How the first estimate moves a job
Wave moves a job forward in two cases, both tied to the job's first estimate:
- When the first estimate is created, a job in New or Pending moves to Estimating.
- When that estimate is finished, a job in New, Pending or Estimating moves to Completed. An estimate counts as finished when Wave finishes building it or when you export it.
Wave only moves a job forward, and leaves a job where your team already put it, such as In Progress or a status you added. Only the job's first estimate changes its status, and you can move the job yourself at any time.
Filter the board
The status filter beside Columns narrows what you see. Open it to pick:
- All active: the full board. The board opens here, so you start with the full picture.
- A single status: only that status's jobs, laid out as a grid. You can also click Expand in a column header.
- Cancelled: cancelled jobs, newest change first.
Each row shows its job count. The filter is the same menu on a phone.
Hide columns you don't need
If your team rarely looks at Completed, hide it. Click Columns beside the filter and untick the statuses you want off the board. Show every column brings them all back. At least one column stays visible.
Hidden columns are your own view. Your teammates see their own choices, no jobs change, and your column choices stay in this browser.
Find a job fast
Click the search bar in the top bar, or press ⌘K (Ctrl+K). Type part of a customer name, an address, the job name or its job number. Results show each job's number and status. To find a cancelled job, pick Cancelled in the status filter.
Cancel, reopen and archive
To cancel a job, drag its card into the Cancelled column, one card at a time, or tell Wave and give a reason: "cancel the Park job, the customer went with another company." The job's future appointments are cancelled too.
To bring a job back, drag its card out of Cancelled, or ask Wave to reopen it. It returns to the status it was in unless you drop it in another column.
A job whose status reads Archived is off the boards and search. To restore an archived job, contact support. See Cancel or reopen a job for the full details.
