Estimate anatomy

Every part of the estimate workspace: the five tabs, then the estimate canvas top to bottom, from the General section and room sections to line item columns, notes, modifiers, subtotals, and the grand total.

Last updated

Every Wave estimate workspace is laid out the same way. This page is the reference for what each part does and where to go for the how-to.

The tabs

The tab bar at the top of the workspace switches between five views:

  • Chat: the conversation where you describe the loss and make changes
  • Info: customer and loss details
  • Photos: photos you have attached, tagged to rooms
  • Drying: drying logs (beta, available on select plans)
  • Survey: the scoping details behind the estimate

On desktop, the chat panel sits on the left and the estimate canvas on the right. On mobile, it is a single pane with the same tabs.

Status pill and lock banner

The status pill shows where the estimate is in the workflow: Preliminary, Completed, or Canceled. See Status icons. If the estimate is locked, a banner appears and edits are blocked until it is unlocked. Wave also locks the estimate briefly while it is responding. See Lock and unlock an estimate.

General section

Cross-cutting items that are not tied to a single room. General is always pinned at the top and cannot be renamed, moved, or deleted.

Room sections

One section per affected room, each with its own header. Right-click a header to rename, edit square footage, move, or delete the room; double-click the title to rename inline.

On multi-unit losses (apartments, condos, townhomes), rooms are grouped under unit headers with a subtotal per unit. Units only appear if you use them; single-unit estimates look exactly as before. See Multi-unit estimates.

Line items

Each row has five columns: description, quantity, unit, price, and total. Click any cell to edit it inline. See Edit a line item manually.

  • Notes: a line item can carry a note, shown with the row and included on the PDF.
  • Modifiers: pricing modifiers (After Hours, Category 3, Heavy Cleaning, No Bagging) show on the rows they are applied to. Only modifiers that apply to a line item's pricing are available.
  • Industry codes: paid plans can show codes in the description column; press X to toggle them.

Totals

Each room section shows a subtotal, multi-unit estimates add per-unit subtotals, and the grand total sits at the bottom. Totals recalculate live as line items change.
