Estimate anatomy

Every block in the right pane, top to bottom — Company Information, FNOL, Loss Description, Estimate Notes, Documentation Photos, Estimate Details. Reference for what's where.

Last updated

The right pane of every Wave estimate is laid out the same way. This page is the reference for what each block does and where to go for the how-to.

Top to bottom

1. Company Information

Pulled from your team's Company Info — logo, name, address, phone, email, license numbers. You don't edit this here; it's read-only on the estimate. Update it once in Profile Settings and every estimate inherits.

2. FNOL Information

The First Notice of Loss block. Fields:

  • Name — the insured / customer
  • Address — loss address (drives regional pricing; sticky once set)
  • Phone
  • Email
  • Insurance — carrier name
  • Claim #
  • Adjuster Name
  • Adjuster Email
  • Category — dropdown: Cat 1, Cat 2, or Cat 3

Wave auto-fills what it can from your first chat message (Filing an FNOL).

3. Loss Description

A free-form summary of what happened — generated from your chat description and editable inline. Appears on the cover area of the exported PDF.

4. Estimate Notes

Whole-estimate context that should appear on the PDF cover. Use this for deposit terms, invoice terms, scheduling caveats. See Edit estimate-level notes.

5. Documentation Photos

Upload zone for photos taken on-site. Photos are tagged per room, captioned automatically, and end up on the final pages of the PDF. See Upload and tag photos.

6. Estimate Details

The priced part of the estimate. Contains:

  • Pricing based on [Region] — the regional rate set Wave is using (set from the address at intake)
  • Sections — General first (always pinned), then one section per affected room
  • Line items — within each section, individually editable
  • Totals — at the bottom, recalculated live as line items change

For editing, see Edit a line item manually and Edit a line item via chat.

The kebab at the top-right of the workspace (the three dots next to the customer name in the breadcrumb) opens the estimate actions menu. It has four actions, in order:

ActionWhat it doesDetails
LockToggles the estimate into a read-only state with a red "View Only" badge. Anyone with access can still unlock — it's a coordination signal.Lock and unlock an estimate
ExportGenerates the PDF and downloads it. Stays available even when the estimate is locked. Paid plans only.Export to PDF
DuplicateClones the entire estimate — chat, line items, photos, FNOL, notes. Wave navigates to All Estimates with the clone at the top (pink row).Duplicate an estimate
Delete (red)Permanently removes the estimate. Hard-delete, no undo. Different from the reversible Cancelled status.Delete an estimate

When the estimate is locked, the kebab swaps to: Unlock (red), Export (active), Duplicate (greyed), Delete (greyed). Only Unlock and Export are usable while locked.

Stale accessibility label. The kebab's a11y label currently reads "Open estimate actions menu (Lock, Export, Duplicate)" — listing only three actions. The live menu has four (Delete was added). The a11y label is a known stale string; we track it in Known issues.

What's NOT in the right pane

  • Chat history — that's the left pane
  • Status badge — top of the workspace, separate from the breadcrumb kebab. The status badge is where you switch between Preliminary / Completed / Canceled — see Change an estimate's status.
  • Show Codes toggle — visible in the workspace, but not documented as a workflow surface
