Adjust a drying plan

Availability: Drying logs are available on Basic and above, and included in the free trial. On Starter, a log started with one of your 5 free drying logs can be adjusted and regenerated the same way.

Real jobs rarely follow the day-one plan. A dehumidifier fails, you add air movers, or a chamber needs to be split. When the setup changes, update the plan so the rest of the log reflects the job as it's running.

The drying log is AI-generated from the estimate and local weather. Whatever you change, techs should keep verifying readings daily.

Change the start date or drying days

The top of the Drying tab shows when drying started and the job's drying days, which are always the longest room's. Both can be edited there.

1. Open the job and select the Drying tab.
2. Click the start date (it reads Started followed by the date) or N drying days.
3. Pick the new date or type the new number of days, then press Enter.

Wave re-plans the targets for the days ahead. If the log already has recorded readings, moving the start date first asks you to confirm with Move the drying schedule?. Every existing reading keeps the calendar date it was recorded on.

Two things to know about changing drying days here:

• It changes the log only. The estimate keeps billing the drying days it had. To change both, ask Wave instead (see below).
• It can be refused. If a line on the estimate is billed for a specific number of days, Wave won't move the log away from it. The message names the line so you can update it on the estimate first.
• Rooms with their own days keep them. If you shorten the job below a room that has its own longer days, that room keeps them and the job runs to that room. A short notice says how long the job now runs.

Change one room's days on the tab

Each room's table has a Dries line above it. If you can edit the log, pick Follow the job or a number of days from 3 to 30. Like the header, this changes the drying log only, not the estimate. A short notice says how long the room and the job now dry, and undo on the tab walks the change back.

To change what the estimate bills for that room too, ask Wave instead. See Per-room drying days.

If the estimate is locked, these fields can't be edited. Unlock the estimate first.

Change equipment, dehumidifiers or chambers by telling Wave

Equipment counts, dehumidifier type, whether a chamber is heated, and merging or splitting chambers all change through Wave in the job's chat. There's no settings panel for them on the Drying tab.

Tell Wave what happened the way you'd tell a coworker: "the LGR in the kitchen died, we swapped in two air movers." Wave updates the plan for you.

When it isn't clear what you mean, Wave asks a focused question before it changes anything. For example, if you ask to extend drying without saying where, Wave asks whether the change is for one room or the whole job. After Wave changes equipment counts or the whole job's drying days in the log, it offers to update the estimate to match, and it only touches the estimate if you say yes. That keeps what you bill and what the log shows in step.

When you clearly ask Wave to give one room more days or to move a unit between rooms, it changes the estimate and tells you the total before and after. If your request leaves it open, Wave changes nothing and asks first. Only the equipment you name runs longer. The Drying tab then shows any difference for that room and asks whether to update the log. See Per-room drying days.

When the estimate changes, the Drying tab asks

If the estimate's drying equipment, a room's drying days or room sizes change after the log was made, the Drying tab shows a card that lists the rooms that no longer match.

• For equipment and days, the card compares each room day by day, for example "Hallway: the drying log plans 3 days. Updating it would plan 4 days." It asks whether to update the drying log to match the estimate. Choose Update the drying log or Keep it as it is. Keeping it remembers the days as well as the counts.
• For room sizes, the card says the room has changed size since the drying plan was made. Choose Regenerate plan or Keep as is.

Neither choice is the default, and logged readings are kept either way. The same question appears if you undo or redo an estimate change that alters drying equipment, a room's drying days or room sizes.

Sometimes Wave can't update a room without changing what its recorded readings are measured against. In that case the card explains why and offers only to keep the log as it is.

When a quantity doesn't split evenly

If a daily equipment line's quantity doesn't divide evenly across the room's drying days, the log can't tell how many units ran each day. Wave won't build or regenerate the log until it knows. The Drying tab asks under the message whether the number is units a day or unit-days in total, and your answer fixes the line on the estimate. See Drying equipment and drying days for more.

What regenerating does and does not change

• Updates: targets for days still ahead of you.
• Never changes: readings you recorded, your notes, or days already in the past. Past days stay as they were, so your log remains an honest history of the job.

When to adjust

• Equipment added, removed, or swapped
• A chamber opened up, combined, or split
• Equipment moved from one room to another
• The drying window is extended or shortened, for the whole job or one room

If your readings show the structure drying faster or slower than expected, that's your call to make. Adjust the plan to match the job, and let your recorded readings tell the story.
