Cancel, reopen or remove a job

Close out a job by telling Wave: cancel it with a reason, reopen it later, or have an admin take it off the boards. Plus what Wave will and won't delete when you ask.

Last updated

Jobs don't have a cancel or delete button. You close one out by telling Wave, in the job's chat or in the command box on Home, Jobs or Timeline. Wave does it and confirms with a short receipt.

Cancel a job

Say which job and, if you have one, why:

  • "Cancel this job, the homeowner went with another contractor."
  • "Cancel the Reyes job, insurance denied the claim."

Wave cancels the job and keeps the reason with it. A cancelled job:

  • leaves the stage columns on the Jobs board and shows up under the board's Cancelled filter,
  • shows Cancelled as its status, and its stage can't be changed until you reopen it,
  • loses its future appointments and any open visit requests. The job's Notes log records how many were cancelled.

Past appointments stay on the Timeline, read only. The job's details, notes, files and estimates stay as they were.

Reopen a cancelled job

Tell Wave: "Reopen the Reyes job." The job goes back on the board. If the crew still needs to go out, book the visit again; see Book a crew visit.

Remove a job from the boards (admins only)

An admin can say "Delete this job" or "Delete the Reyes job." Wave archives it: the job comes off the boards, and nothing in it is destroyed. This works on active and cancelled jobs.

If someone who isn't an admin asks, Wave replies that only an admin can archive a job. See User roles.

Archiving has no Undo. The job's status reads Archived, and its appointments become read only.

Getting an archived job back

You can't restore an archived job yourself. Contact support with the job's name or number, and we'll bring it back.

What you can remove by asking Wave

Inside a job, you can ask Wave to:

  • Remove a contact from the job: "Take the tenant off this job." The person stays in your company's contacts; only their link to this job ends. You can also do this on the job's Overview. See Job details, contacts and team.
  • Clear a field: "Clear the policy number." Wave clears only the field you name.
  • Delete a note you wrote: quote a few of its words so Wave finds the right one. "Delete my note that says the fridge was pulled."
  • Delete an estimate: "Delete the contents estimate."

Be careful with estimates. Wave deletes as soon as it knows which estimate you mean, with no confirm box. On a job with one estimate, that means right away. On a job with several, if you don't name one, Wave asks which and offers All of them; saying "all of them" deletes every estimate on the job in one go. Deleting an estimate removes its line items, and if the job's drying log lives on that estimate, the log and its readings go too. A locked estimate has to be unlocked first. There is no Undo, and the estimate's credit is not returned.

If you'd rather see a confirm box, delete from the job's Job actions (⋮) menu instead. See Delete an estimate.

What Wave won't delete

  • Files. Wave won't delete a photo, video or PDF. Remove it on the job's Files tab.
  • A teammate's note, or a note a teammate corrected after you wrote it. Only the person who wrote it can remove it.
  • The activity log. Entries that record what happened (stage moves, bookings, uploads) can't be edited or removed.
  • A job, for good. "Delete" archives it, and support can bring it back.
