Connect your AI assistant to Wave in three steps: create a key, connect, and ask. From there, it answers questions about your jobs and makes changes in Wave for you.

You need a Wave company on a paid plan. Admins and members can both create keys.

1. Create a key

  1. Open the account menu, choose Settings, then select Developer. When Wave shows Ask your AI. Wave does the work. after you sign in, Next opens the same tab.
  2. Under Connect your AI, select Create key.
  3. Name it for where it will live, such as "Work laptop".
  4. Choose the access:
    • Read looks up jobs, customers, photos, documents, estimates, drying logs, and Wave's catalog, including phone and email.
    • Write does everything Read does, and also creates jobs, adds notes, sorts photos, prepares estimates, and fills in drying logs.
  5. Choose when it expires: 30 days, 90 days, or 1 year. 90 days is the default.
  6. Select Create key.

2. Connect your assistant

Wave shows the new key once, on Your key is ready, in two steps:

  1. Tell your assistant this. Select Copy beside the message and paste it into your assistant. The message holds no key. It says what Wave is and how to connect, then asks you for your key. Your assistant connects itself or walks you through the steps in the app you use.
  2. Then give it your key. Select Copy key, and paste the key as your next message when your assistant asks for it.

For an assistant whose MCP settings take a server and a header, add these instead:

  • Server: https://wave-mcp.prod.buildwithwave.com/mcp
  • Header: Authorization: Bearer followed by your key

Copy the key before you select Done. If the window closes first, create another key. The message stays on the Developer tab under Connect your AI, so you can copy it again for another assistant.

3. Ask something

Start with a lookup:

  • "Check my Wave connection and tell me the company name."
  • "What's going on with the Elm Street job?"
  • "Show me the roof photos on the Alder Street job."
  • "Which jobs are still drying?"

With a Write key, ask for a change:

  • "Add a note to the Hernandez job: the adjuster walked the fire-damaged kitchen today and asked for the contents list by Friday."
  • "Put Luis on the Alder Street job."
  • "File the Unsorted photos on job #16 into rooms."

Changes save when you ask, and they show in Wave under your name.
