Chat with Wave
You have one conversation with Wave that follows you from Home to the Chat page to every job. Here is where to find it, what it can do, and how to start fresh.
You talk to Wave the way you would talk to a sharp office manager: in your own words, typed or spoken. This page covers where that conversation lives and what you can do in it.
One conversation that follows you
You have one conversation with Wave, not a separate chat per page or per estimate. What you send from the Home command box, the Chat page and a job's chat all belongs to it. A job with several estimates still has the one conversation.
Each place shows the part that matters there:
- The Chat page shows your whole conversation, including what you sent from Home.
- A job's chat shows today's conversation alongside that job's activity. If a message was about a different job, it carries a small tag with that job's name so nothing gets mixed up.
Earlier days fold into a summary row at the top of the chat. Tap it to open and read them.
The conversation is yours. Each teammate has their own. What Wave does for you, such as adding a note, starting an estimate or booking a visit, lands on the job where the whole team sees it.
The Chat page: questions with no job
Open Chat from the top bar (on a phone, it is in the menu button). Use it when your question is not about one job:
- Ask what the industry standards say about water damage, mold remediation or drying science. Wave carries the standards themselves, searches them and answers with the section its answer rests on. Standards answers come with Basic and above, including the free trial.
- Ask whether a policy or program covers something. Wave recommends a reading and names the policy section it rests on. It never decides coverage. Attach the policy PDF if Wave has not seen it.
- Attach a photo or PDF and ask about it.
- Describe a new loss and Wave creates the job.
If you type a plain question into the Home box, Wave carries it over to the Chat page and answers there.
The chat beside a job
Inside a job, Wave's chat sits beside every tab on a computer. On a phone, pick Chat from the job's view menu.
Wave reads the job's notes before it answers, so it does not ask again for what your team already wrote down. From here you can log a note, add a contact, book a visit or start an estimate. To start one, tell Wave what you need, or, when the chat is empty, tap the Make me an estimate for starter and finish the sentence. Starting an estimate uses one credit.
If you type scope details on a job that has no estimate yet, Wave does not start one on a guess. It shows a card asking first. Start estimate starts it and uses a credit. Not now charges nothing and keeps your words as a job note.
Ask Wave about a job
Ask anything about the job in its chat: "When is the crew going back?", "What did the tech note about the subfloor?", "How is the drying going?" Wave answers from the job's notes, activity, estimates, schedule and drying log.
Asking a question writes nothing. Wave does not change the job, the estimate or the notes to answer you.
When Wave is waiting on your answer
While it builds an estimate, Wave asks one question at a time, often with buttons you can tap, and only when the answer changes the estimate. You can also type your answer or say everything up front.
On a computer, the question sits in the chat beside the job. On a phone, when you are on another view, a chat bubble with a pulsing dot appears next to the view menu. Tap it to jump straight to the question. The same bubble appears if a message did not go through and needs a retry.
Long messages and New chat
One message can hold up to 20,000 characters, enough for a long site walk or several pages of pasted notes. If you go over, Wave holds the send and tells you how many parts to split it into. Everything you typed stays in the box. Voice takes run up to 90 seconds each, and you can stack several takes before you send.
To start fresh, tap the New chat button (a speech bubble with a plus) at the top of the chat. It appears once there is something to clear. New chat puts the current conversation away into the history row, where you can still read it. Nothing is deleted, and any words you had not sent yet stay in the box. Files you attached but had not sent are cleared, so attach them again.
Chatting in Spanish or French
Wave works in English, Spanish and French. Write or speak in Spanish or French and Wave replies in that language, and its own choice buttons come in that language too. You can log drying readings the same way. There is no setting to change.
The app's menus, buttons and labels stay in English.
