Lock and unlock an estimate

Lock an estimate when it's final to keep the numbers steady while you wait on carrier or customer sign-off. You can still export, share and duplicate it.

Lock an estimate when it's final and you want the numbers to stay put, for example while you wait on carrier sign-off. Your team can still export and share it, so a locked estimate is ready to send.

How to lock

  1. Go to Jobs, open the job and select the Estimates tab.
  2. If the job has more than one estimate, switch to the one you want to lock.
  3. Open Job actions (⋮) in the job's top bar and choose Lock estimate.

The menu acts on the estimate on screen. On a phone, the same ⋮ menu sits in the job's top row.

While the estimate is locked, a banner at the top of the estimate says it is in view-only mode and points you to unlock or duplicate. Everyone on your team sees it when they open the estimate.

How to unlock

Open Job actions (⋮) again and choose Unlock estimate. The banner clears and editing is back on. Your team can lock or unlock.

What locking protects

A locked estimate stays exactly as it is:

  • Line items, line notes and rooms are protected from hand edits.
  • Chat changes are paused too. While a locked estimate is on screen, the job's chat box reminds you to unlock before making changes.
  • Undo and Redo pause until you unlock.
  • Drying log readings and settings built from that estimate are protected.
  • Archiving the estimate waits until you unlock it.

What you can still do

Export. Build the PDF and other exports as usual. Lock, then export, to send a clean, frozen document. See Export reports.

Duplicate. Copy a locked estimate to branch from a frozen version. The copy starts locked too, so unlock the copy when you're ready to work on it. See Duplicate an estimate. Duplicating is available on paid plans.

Lock and "Wave is updating"

While Wave is working on a chat request, the estimate shows "Wave is updating" and hand edits resume on their own when Wave finishes. This is separate from a lock, so there is nothing to do and no banner appears.
