Estimates

Lock and unlock an estimate

Lock an estimate from the command palette to prevent edits. A banner shows while locked. Wave also locks briefly while it responds in chat.

Last updated

Lock freezes an estimate against edits. Use it when an estimate is final and you don't want anything moving underneath it, for example while you wait on carrier sign-off.

How to lock

  1. With the estimate open, press ⌘K (Ctrl+K) to open the command palette.
  2. Type "lock" and choose the lock action.

A banner appears on the estimate while it is locked, so anyone who opens it can see the state at a glance.

How to unlock

Same path: open the command palette and choose the unlock action. The banner clears and editing is enabled again.

What lock blocks (and what it doesn't)

Locking blocks edits to the estimate. It does not block:

  • Status changes: you can still mark a locked estimate Completed or Canceled. See Change an estimate's status.
  • Export: you can still generate the PDF. That's intentional; locked-then-export is exactly how you ship a clean, frozen document. See Export reports.

Lock and status are independent. An estimate can be locked and Preliminary, locked and Completed, and so on.

Wave locks briefly while it responds

While Wave is working on a chat request, it locks the estimate for the duration of its response. This keeps your manual edits and Wave's edits from colliding. The lock releases automatically when Wave finishes; you don't need to do anything.

When to lock

  • You've finalized an estimate and don't want teammates editing it
  • You're waiting on customer or carrier sign-off
  • You're about to export and want the numbers frozen
