Drying Logs

Generate a drying plan

Wave creates the job's drying log for you once the job includes drying, and on Starter you start one with a free drying log. Here is where to find it, what it starts with, and what to check before day one.

Availability: Drying logs are available on Basic and above, and included in the free trial. On Starter, your company gets 5 free drying logs (see Start a log on Starter below).

On Basic and above, you don't need to press a button to get a drying log. Once a job includes drying, Wave creates the job's log in the background, the first time the job qualifies. On Starter, you start each log yourself. The plan is AI-generated from the estimate and local weather, so techs should verify readings daily.

Find the log

  1. Open Jobs and pick the job.
  2. Select Drying. On a phone, pick Drying from the job's view menu.

There is one drying log per job, and every estimate on the job shares it. Adding another estimate later never creates a second log.

If there is no log yet

The Drying tab tells you why:

  • "No drying on this job." The job has no estimate that includes drying. Tell Wave about the water loss in the job's chat.
  • Fewer than 3 drying days. A drying log needs at least 3 drying days. A 1 or 2 day window is stabilization, not drying. If the job needs a log, ask Wave in chat to add drying days.
  • "No drying plan yet." The job qualifies but the plan hasn't been built. Ask Wave in chat, "generate the drying plan," or select the small Generate now link. On Starter, see below.

Start a log on Starter

On Starter, water jobs have a Drying tab and your company gets 5 free drying logs. They don't expire and don't use estimate credits. Opening a job, viewing the Drying tab or completing a job never uses one, and Wave doesn't start a log on its own.

  1. Open the water job and select Drying. The tab shows how many you have left, for example "3 of 5 free drying logs left."
  2. Ask Wave for a drying log in the job's chat, or select Generate now. The link says it uses one of your free drying logs.
  3. A box asks Start a drying log? Choose Start drying log to use one. Not now uses nothing, and neither does closing the box.

Wave checks the job before it asks, so you're never asked to spend a free log on a log it would then refuse. If the estimate has nothing to dry, Wave says so and no free log is used.

Once your 5 are used, new drying logs need Basic. The tab says "You have used your 5 free drying logs. Drying logs come with Basic." Admins see a See plans link. Everyone else is asked to have an admin upgrade. Logs you already started keep working: readings, edits, regenerating and the PDF.

What the plan starts with

  • Chambers. Drying zones tied to the rooms on the estimate.
  • Daily targets. Temperature, relative humidity and material moisture for each chamber, for each day of the drying window.
  • Equipment. The drying equipment billed on the estimate. The log follows the estimate. It does not pick its own counts.

The header shows the start date, the number of drying days, and where the weather came from (a place name, or "Weather: estimated" when local weather wasn't available). It also carries the caption "AI-generated. Verify readings daily."

In the grid, Wave's plan values are plain ink. Readings your team measures show in blue, so the two are easy to tell apart.

Review before the first monitoring visit

Give the plan a quick once-over before day one:

  • Chambers match your containment. If two rooms share one setup, ask Wave to merge them. Wave asks before it merges.
  • Equipment matches what you placed. If the counts are off, tell Wave what is on site. When the estimate and the log disagree, a card on the tab asks whether to Update the drying log or Keep it as it is. Your readings are kept either way.
  • The start date and drying days are right. Click either one in the header to change it. Wave re-plans the future days to match.
  • Each room's schedule fits the job. If one room needs longer, ask Wave, for example "keep the dehu in the hallway 2 more days." Only the equipment you name runs longer, and the estimate bills that room for the days it ran. If it isn't clear what you mean, Wave asks before it changes anything. See Per-room drying days.

Then start recording readings on your first monitoring visit.

If the log won't build

If an equipment line on the estimate doesn't line up with the drying days, Wave can't build or update the log. When the line's quantity doesn't split evenly across the room's days, the tab asks whether that number is units a day or unit-days in total, and your answer fixes the line. For any other mismatch, the message names the line and says what to fix. Correct that line on the estimate, then try again. See Drying equipment and drying days.

If the estimate is locked, the log is read-only until you unlock it.
