Estimates

Edit a line item via chat

Tell Wave what to change in plain English and watch the estimate canvas update. The one rule: when you target a room-scoped line item, name the room.

Last updated

Anything you can edit on the estimate canvas, you can edit through chat. Useful when you have several changes to make or you'd rather describe what you want than click around.

What chat edits can do

  • Rename: "Rename the air mover line in the hall bathroom to 'air mover, 24-hour run'."
  • Quantity: "Bump the dehu count in the hallway to 2."
  • Price: "Set the floor protection to $45 per LF."
  • Add a line item: "Add a baseboard repair line to the hallway, 8 LF."
  • Delete a line item: "Delete the cover register from the hall bathroom."
  • Several at once: chain them in one message and Wave works through the list.

The room-specification rule

When you're editing a line item that lives inside a specific room, name the room in your command.

Most line items are scoped to a room rather than the General section. Without the room name, Wave may have to ask which "cover register" you meant.

What to expect while Wave works

  • Wave handles one message at a time. While it's working, the send arrow becomes a stop square (press it to cancel) and a status pill shows Wave is thinking.
  • The estimate is briefly locked while Wave responds, so its edits and yours don't collide. It unlocks automatically when Wave finishes.
  • Changes appear live on the canvas as Wave applies them.

Follow-up limits on the free trial

On the free trial, a completed estimate allows up to 5 follow-up chat messages. Paid plans have unlimited follow-up chat. Manual canvas edits are never limited on any plan.

Chat edits and undo

⌘Z (Ctrl+Z) on the canvas undoes estimate edits. Chat messages themselves aren't "undone"; undo applies to the estimate changes. See Undo and redo.

When to use chat vs. manual

  • Chat for batch changes, or when you're already in the conversation.
  • Manual for quick single-cell tweaks; see Edit a line item manually.
