Rooms & Line Items

Add a custom line item

Add a one-off material or customer-specific charge quickly. Autofill suggests Wave's items, your saved Your Items and close matches as you type.

Anything beyond what Wave scopes on its own, like a one-off material or a customer-specific charge, takes seconds to add. Add a line with the Add line item button or press N. Autofill suggests Wave's items, your team's Your Items and close matches as you type.

You work on the job's Estimates tab: open Jobs, pick the job, then open Estimates.

Add from the estimate

  1. Find the room (or the General section) the line belongs in.
  2. Click Add line item at the bottom of that room. On a computer you can also select a row in the room and press N.
  3. Start typing a description. Autofill suggests matches as you type (see below). Pick one, or keep typing your own description for a fully custom line.
  4. Fill in the quantity, unit and price. Enter commits each cell and Tab moves to the next one. Quantity and price accept math like 8*3.

You can also press ⌘K (Ctrl+K) on the Estimates tab and choose Add line item.

The new line lands in its room, and you can drag it into position. See Reorder rooms and line items.

What autofill offers

Check the suggestions first. They come from:

  • Wave's own items, priced for the job's region.
  • Your Items, the custom items your team has saved.
  • Close matches, priced for the job's region. Pick one and it lands on the estimate.

If none of them fit, finish typing your own description and enter the quantity, unit and price yourself.

Add from chat

If you're already talking to Wave, describe the line instead:

"Add a custom line to the hall bathroom: after-hours emergency callout, 1 EA, $150."

Save your regulars as Your Items

If you add the same custom line on job after job, save it once in Settings > Pricing under Your Items with a name, unit and price. Anyone on your team can add Your Items, and they show up in autofill for the whole team whenever you type. See Your Items.

To change the price Wave uses for its own items, an Admin sets up Custom pricing. See Custom pricing.

When adding is available

Adding lines is available when the estimate is unlocked and Wave isn't updating it. If Wave is mid-update, the button returns as soon as it finishes. See Lock and unlock an estimate.

Add a note

If the custom line needs context ("customer requested upgraded trim"), attach a note: select the row and press A, or choose Add note from the row's menu. Notes print under the line on the PDF. See Add a note to a line item.
