Overhead & Profit and minimum charges

On repairs, roofing and fire estimates, Wave adds overhead and profit or minimum charges where they apply, tells you what it added, and keeps them current. Remove any of them with a line edit.

Some estimates carry money that isn't tied to one room: overhead and profit, and minimum charges. On the kinds of work where these are normal, Wave adds them when it builds the estimate and tells you what it added. It never slips them in quietly, and you can take any of them off.

Which estimates show these sections

  • Repairs estimates. Wave adds a minimum charge for a trade whose work on the job comes in under that trade's minimum, so a small piece of work still covers the trip. When the job calls for it, Wave also adds overhead and profit. Not every repairs estimate gets overhead and profit. These show in their own sections, Labor Minimums Applied and Overhead & Profit.
  • Roofing estimates. Roofing builds include overhead and profit, and a minimum charge when the roofing work comes in under the minimum. These show in their own sections, Roofing Minimum and Overhead & Profit.
  • Fire estimates. Wave adds a minimum charge only when a trade comes in under its minimum, in a Labor Minimums section. Wave doesn't add overhead and profit to fire mitigation work.

How Wave tells you what it added

When Wave builds the estimate, its reply names what it added and how to remove it. Nothing arrives unexplained. The lines sit on the estimate like any other line, so you and anyone you share it with can see exactly what they add.

Remove what you don't want

These are ordinary lines, and taking them off is a line edit:

  • Select the lines in the section and delete them, or
  • Ask Wave in chat, for example "take off the overhead and profit."

If you remove one by mistake, use Undo.

They stay current as you edit

Overhead and profit and minimum charges depend on the rest of the estimate. When you change other lines, by hand or by telling Wave, these lines recalculate on their own. Estimate history marks those updates as recalculated, so no one mistakes them for a hand edit.

In the Xactimate export

Xactimate handles these charges its own way, so not everything travels as a line:

  • Overhead and profit is not sent as lines in the Xactimate export (.ESX). Xactimate applies overhead and profit from its own settings, so the total there depends on how your Xactimate is set up.
  • Repairs labor minimums travel as Xactimate's own minimum charges, at the amounts on your Wave estimate.
  • Other minimum lines, such as roofing's, may not travel. Before you download, the export check names any line that can't make the trip and lets you download the rest.
