How estimate credits work

Jobs are free. Each new estimate uses one credit, duplicates are free, and Wave asks before starting an estimate it only guessed you wanted. Allowances refill every month.

Wave counts estimates, not jobs. Your plan gives your company a number of estimate credits each month: 10 on Starter, 25 on Basic, 50 on Pro, or the volume you picked on Custom. A new company starts with a free trial of 3 estimates.

What uses a credit

Each new estimate uses one credit. That includes another estimate on a job that already has one, for example a repairs estimate on a water job. When Wave starts an estimate you asked for, the receipt says "It used one credit."

Before Wave adds another estimate to a job, it shows a confirm box that names the credit. See Several estimates on one job.

What's always free

  • Jobs. Create as many as you need. Adding a customer, notes, files or a visit never uses a credit.
  • Duplicates. Duplicating an estimate makes a free copy on the same job. See Duplicate an estimate.
  • Chat. Asking Wave questions and editing an estimate through chat don't use credits. On the free trial, follow-up messages on a finished estimate are limited. See The free trial.
  • Hand edits. Editing lines on the Estimates tab is never limited.

When Wave asks before starting an estimate

When you clearly ask for an estimate, Wave starts it. When Wave only guesses that you want one, for example when you drop an Xactimate export or a PDF on a job, or type scope details on a job with no estimate, it asks first. You see a card that says the estimate uses one credit:

  • Start estimate starts it and uses the credit.
  • Not now charges nothing. If you typed scope details, Wave keeps them as a job note.

A card that sits too long expires, and nothing is charged. Ask again when you're ready.

See how many estimates you have left

Open the account menu. Under your plan name, Wave shows how many estimates your company has left. On Pro, the menu reads "High-volume estimating" instead of a count.

When your company runs out

You can still create jobs, add notes and files, book visits, and view and edit your existing estimates. Only new estimates stop.

  • Admins land in the plan picker with a note about the limit, so they can upgrade or pick a larger Custom volume. See Change your plan.
  • Members see a "Limit reached" message asking them to contact an Admin.

Allowances refill every month

Your allowance refills at the start of each monthly period. Annual plans refill monthly too, so an annual Basic plan gets 25 estimates each month, not 300 up front. If you still have trial estimates when you subscribe, they stay available alongside your plan's allowance.
