What you can ask for

Plain-language requests for jobs, people, photos, documents, notes, estimates, drying logs, and downloads, from the field, the desk, or the claim file. Changes save when you ask.

Last updated

Ask in your own words. Your assistant picks the right Wave tool, and changes save when you ask. In the field, open a job from the driveway, file photos into rooms, turn inspection notes into rooms and lines, or read off readings at each visit. At the desk, pull the claim, the contacts, the notes, the estimates, and the drying record into one answer, or check what a carrier's scope says.

Lookups work with a Read or a Write key. Everything that changes Wave needs a Write key.

Find and summarize

  • "What's going on with the Elm Street job?"
  • "Find the job for claim 88-1234."
  • "Which jobs are in Estimating?"
  • "Which jobs are still drying?"
  • "Which open jobs have no photos yet?"
  • "Who is the adjuster on the Hernandez job, and what's their number?"
  • "What changed on job #16 this week?"
  • "What changed across my jobs since yesterday?"

A job number such as #16 opens that job directly, even a cancelled one. A customer search returns phone, email, address, and the jobs that person is on.

Open a job

"New kitchen fire for Maria Hernandez at 412 Alder Street. Her cell is 555-0142 and her email is maria@example.com. The carrier is Northline Mutual, claim 88-1234, policy HO-55120. Put Luis on it."

One request creates the job and fills in the customer, the loss address, the phone and email, the carrier, the claim and policy numbers, the referral source, and the assignee.

Keep the file current

  • "Set the date of loss to March 3, cause is a supply line, Category 2."
  • "The claim number changed to 88-1240."
  • "Add the adjuster, Dana Price, 555-0199."
  • "Update Maria's email to maria.h@example.com."
  • "Put Luis on the Smith job and take Ana off."
  • "Move the Alder Street job to In Progress."
  • "The Smith job is cancelled. The claim was withdrawn."
  • "Reopen the Smith job."

Photos and documents

  • "Show me the kitchen photos on the Hernandez job."
  • "Sort the Unsorted photos on job #16 into rooms."
  • "Caption the last three roof photos: hail hits on the south slope."
  • "Send me a link to add photos to the Alder Street job, into the Garage."
  • "Find the walkthrough video on the Smith job."
  • "What does the carrier's scope on the Hernandez job say about the cabinets?"
  • "Read the engineer's report on job #16 and list the damaged trusses."

Your assistant files photos into rooms the way the Files tab does, and adds a room the job is missing. To add photos, it gives you a link where you pick them on your phone or computer. It reads the PDFs on a job's Files tab, scanned pages included, and answers from the document's own words.

Notes

  • "Add a note to the Hernandez job: the adjuster walked the fire-damaged kitchen today and asked for the contents list by Friday."
  • "Fix that last note. It was the living room, not the kitchen."
  • "Remove the note I added about the deductible."

A note lands on the job as you. It also posts to Slack when an admin has turned on New note in Slack notifications, a switch that starts off. A correction keeps the earlier wording in the note's history.

Estimates

  • "Build an estimate for the Elm Street kitchen. The room is 12 by 14 with 8 foot ceilings, with 2 feet of wet drywall to remove."
  • "Start an estimate for the roof at 412 Alder Street: 28 squares, hail damage on the south and west slopes."
  • "Add the hallway, 10 by 4, and take the baseboard quantity to 18."
  • "Add a line for the subcontractor's invoice, 1 each at $450."
  • "Remove the antimicrobial line from the bathroom."
  • "The kitchen dries for 5 days, not 4."
  • "What's the total on the Elm Street estimate, by room?"

Your assistant finds the right items in Wave's catalog, and Wave prices them at your regional pricing. For anything else, such as a subcontractor's quote, it adds your own line at the price you give.

Creating an estimate uses one estimate credit, the same as in Wave. Rooms, lines, and changes after that are included.

Drying logs

  • "Record today's readings for the kitchen: 72 degrees, 45 percent humidity, drywall at 18, subfloor at 22."
  • "Add a drying note: moved two air movers to the hallway."
  • "Day 3 wasn't monitored. Skip it for every area."
  • "Run the kitchen 2 more days."
  • "How is drying going on the Elm Street job?"

Your assistant can record the first reading before a drying log exists. Wave starts the log, adds the area, and extends the plan when it needs to. On a job with no estimate yet, starting the log uses one estimate credit, and Wave sets up the estimate and its rooms with it.

Drying readings and notes work on a job whose estimate is shared and locked.

Standards questions

  • "What do the standards say about how dry a subfloor should be before new flooring goes down?"
  • "When does mold work call for containment?"

Your assistant searches the industry standards Wave holds and answers in its own words, with the source.

Downloads

  • "Send me the Alder Street roof estimate as a PDF."
  • "I need the drying log and the photo report for job #16 as one PDF."
  • "Give me a ZIP of the kitchen photos from the Hernandez job."

Your assistant sends a link, and you download the file from there. The PDF is the same one the Export dialog builds. Downloading a PDF that holds the estimate marks the estimate final in Wave.

Undo

"Undo that."

Your assistant takes back the last change the key made, when nothing else has changed that record since.
