About drying logs

Availability: Drying logs are available on Basic and above, and included in the free trial. On Starter, your company gets 5 free drying logs (see Drying logs on Starter below).

A drying log is the daily record of how a water loss dried: the conditions, the equipment that ran, and how the materials came down day by day. Adjusters expect one, and writing it by hand is slow.

Drying logs were formerly called DryTrack, and you may still see that name in a few places in the app. It's the same feature.

Wave gives you a head start. When a job includes drying, Wave creates the drying log for you. On Starter, you start it with one of your free drying logs. Either way, Wave builds a plan from the job's estimate (the affected rooms, the water category and the drying equipment billed on it) plus local weather, and works the drying science so you don't have to.

The log is AI-generated. Techs should verify readings daily. The Drying tab says so in its header, every time you open it.

One log per job

Each job has one drying log, and every estimate on the job shares it. It lives on the job, not on an estimate: open Jobs, pick the job, and select Drying. On a phone, pick Drying from the job's view menu.

Wave creates the log automatically the first time the job qualifies, and a later estimate never creates a second one. On Starter, a log starts only when someone on your team confirms it. Older jobs that already had more than one log keep them: the tab shows the main log with links to the others.

A drying log needs at least 3 drying days. A job scoped for 1 or 2 days is stabilization, not drying, so there is nothing to track, and the tab tells you to add drying days in chat if you need a log. A job with nothing drying shows "No drying on this job."

Targets are a baseline, not a verdict

The plan lays out daily targets for temperature, relative humidity and material moisture. Treat them as a baseline to work from:

• You take the real readings. The log is built on what your meters say in the field, not on the plan.
• Wave never changes a reading you entered. When the plan is adjusted or regenerated, only future targets change. Your readings, notes and past days stay as they are.
• Your judgment wins. If the structure dries differently than the plan expected, trust your meters, record what you see and adjust the plan.

What you get

• A grid for each chamber. Each chamber is its own block, headed with its water class, square footage and drying days. Rows are temperature, RH, GPP and material moisture, and days run across as columns. GPP is calculated for you from temperature and RH.
• Each room's own days. A room can keep drying after the rest of the job is done. Its block shows how many days it dries and the day its drying ends, and the job's drying days are the longest room's. See Per-room drying days.
• Color that tells you who measured what. Blue values are readings a person measured. Wave's plan values, and anything Wave filled in, are plain ink.
• A chart per chamber showing the GPP line, blue where measured and dotted where projected, with a Conditions table for outside and unaffected reference readings.
• Notes and a closing note that print on the drying log PDF.
• A drying log PDF you can export on its own or combined with the estimate.

What you change on the tab, and what you ask Wave

On the Drying tab you can edit readings, the start date, the job's drying days, each room's drying days, a day's date, the pull reading, days that were not monitored, notes and the closing note. Day changes on the tab change the log only, not the estimate.

Equipment counts, dehumidifier type, heated or unheated, merging chambers and moving equipment between rooms change only by asking Wave in the job's chat. When the estimate and the log no longer match, a card on the tab shows each room's difference, day by day, and asks whether to update the drying log or keep it as it is.

Wave's chat is also where you get advice. The tab itself doesn't flag readings. Ask Wave "are we on track?" and it answers from your measured readings.

Drying logs on Starter

On Starter, water jobs have a Drying tab, and your company gets 5 free drying logs. They don't expire and don't use estimate credits.

• You choose when to use one. Opening a job, viewing the Drying tab or completing a job never uses a free log, and Wave doesn't start a log on its own when a Starter job completes. A log starts only when someone confirms Start drying log. Anyone on your team who can edit the job's estimate can start one. See Generate a drying plan.
• The tab shows what's left, for example "3 of 5 free drying logs left."
• Everyone gets a heads-up. After signing in, each person in a Starter company sees a "5 free drying logs, on us" message until they close it. To see it again, open Inbox in the account menu. It goes away after about a week, or once your free logs are used.
• Logs you start keep working. Readings, edits, regenerating and the PDF keep working on those logs, even after your 5 are used or your company changes plans.
• After 5, new logs need Basic. On a job without a log, the tab says "You have used your 5 free drying logs. Drying logs come with Basic." Admins see a See plans link. Everyone else is asked to have an admin upgrade.
