Drying equipment and drying days

Availability: How Wave bills drying equipment applies to water estimates on every plan. The drying log parts of this page need drying logs, which come with Basic and above and are included in the free trial.

Drying equipment touches two places in Wave: the estimate, which bills it, and the drying log, which tracks it day by day. They follow slightly different rules, and knowing them saves you a surprise when you edit one and not the other.

The drying log is AI-generated from the estimate and local weather. Techs should verify readings daily, whatever the equipment setup.

One drying period for the whole job

On the estimate, drying equipment bills over one drying period for the whole job. Every air mover and dehumidifier line runs for that same number of days. There's no separate day count per room or per line on the estimate today.

One room drying longer in the log

The drying log is more flexible. If one room needs more days than the rest, ask Wave in the job's chat, for example "give the master bath two more days." That room's block on the Drying tab then shows its own days.

If you ask to extend or shorten drying without saying where, Wave asks whether you mean one room or the whole job. It doesn't guess.

A longer room in the log doesn't change the estimate. The estimate still bills one drying period for the job. If the whole job runs longer, change the job's drying days (see below) so the bill follows.

Different days on one piece of equipment

If you ask Wave to bill one drying line for a different number of days than the job's drying period, Wave doesn't change the line on its own. It points out that drying lines share the job's drying period and asks how you want to handle it, which can include changing the drying period for the whole job. Nothing changes until you answer.

Equipment you placed vs. what drying science supports

Tell Wave what's running on site, in chat or in the job's notes: "four air movers and one dehu in the kitchen." Wave bills the counts you give it.

If drying science would place more equipment for those rooms, Wave says what it noticed and asks you once which to use: what you placed, or what drying science supports. It's your call either way. Once you've said what's running, Wave won't quietly bill more than you placed. If you don't say, Wave places equipment based on drying science for the rooms.

When a quantity doesn't split evenly across the days

If you hand-edit an equipment line so its quantity doesn't come out to a whole number of units across the drying days, the log can't tell how many units actually ran. Wave won't build or regenerate the drying log until that's fixed. The message names the line and asks you to correct it on the estimate, then try again.

Keep the estimate and drying log in step

• Ask Wave for changes that affect both. After Wave changes equipment counts or the whole job's drying days in the log, it offers to update the estimate to match. It only touches the estimate if you say yes.
• The Drying tab header changes the log only. Editing the drying days at the top of the Drying tab re-plans the log, and the estimate keeps its billed days. If an estimate line is billed for a specific number of days, the change is refused and the message names the line to update first.
• Watch for the update card. When the estimate's equipment or room sizes change, the Drying tab shows a card listing the rooms that no longer match, so you can update the log or keep it as it is. Recorded readings are kept either way.

Very short drying periods

If a water estimate's drying period is too short to track, Wave doesn't create a drying log for the job. The Drying tab explains why and suggests adding drying days in chat if the job needs more. Once the estimate has enough drying days, Wave can build the log.
