Concepts

What Wave does and doesn't do (yet)

An explicit list of what's in scope today, what's on the roadmap, and what we don't plan to build. Save this page if you find yourself asking 'can Wave do X?' a lot.

We get the same set of "does Wave do X?" questions every week. This page is the canonical answer so you don't have to ask.

What Wave does today

  • Interior water damage: Category 1, 2, and 3
  • Mold remediation
  • Contents jobs: pack-outs, storage, and pack-backs — packing labor, supervision, boxes and materials, vans, and dated monthly storage lines. See Contents estimates.
  • Residential focus: single-family homes and multi-unit properties
  • Multi-room jobs: per-room scoping, line items, and photo tagging
  • Multi-unit losses: rooms grouped by unit with per-unit subtotals, in the app and on the PDF
  • Insurance-grade PDF export: cover page, customer and loss details, line items, notes, photos, totals — with styled covers and your brand accent
  • Xactimate export: Wave is compatible with Xactimate — export your estimate to it from the export options (Basic and above, included in the trial). See Export to Xactimate.
  • QuickBooks invoicing: send a finished estimate to QuickBooks Online as a draft invoice (Basic and above). See Send an estimate to QuickBooks.
  • Regional pricing: keyed to the loss address, US and Canada
  • Custom pricing: admins can set their own price for any catalog item and save their own custom items. See Custom pricing and Your Items.
  • Photos in chat: attach photos and ask Wave about them — "is this enough equipment?" Wave looks, compares against the estimate, and offers changes for you to confirm. See Ask Wave about photos.
  • Documents in chat: attach adjuster scopes, policies, or moisture logs as PDFs and ask Wave questions, or have it compare a document against your estimate. See Ask Wave about documents.
  • Files on every estimate: room-tagged photos, PDFs, and videos, organized in the Files tab. See The Files tab.
  • Drying logs: a complete drying plan generated when a water job finishes, daily reading tracking, and adjuster-ready log exports (Basic and above, included in the trial)
  • Estimate defensibility: an auto-generated standards rationale for the job and each room (Basic and above, included in the trial). See Standards rationale.
  • Carrier guideline review: upload the carrier or TPA program guidelines you work under, and Wave flags your estimates against the programs you attach. Wave is not trained on carrier guidelines — yours stay yours (Basic and above, included in the trial). See Set up carrier guidelines.
  • Sharing and collaboration: collaborator links with line-item comments, a branded read-only customer link, live teammate presence, and a full change history. See Share an estimate.
  • Voice-to-text dictation: mic button on the chat, ideal on a phone in the field
  • Chat in your language: talk to Wave in Spanish, French, and more; line item names stay in English so exports stay industry-standard
  • Recall past jobs: ask Wave about earlier estimates by customer or job name

What Wave doesn't do yet

Being straight about this list is the point. If it's here, it's a real gap, not fine print.

On the roadmap

  • Storm losses (wind, hail): not supported today
  • Fire and smoke: not supported today
  • Exterior damage: Wave scopes interior losses today
  • Construction / rebuild estimates: Wave is mitigation-focused; rebuild is planned
  • Asbestos: not supported today
  • Detailed contents cleaning: pack-out, storage, and pack-back are supported; itemized contents cleaning isn't yet

Not supported today

  • Building an estimate from a document or photo: Wave reads what you attach and answers questions or flags differences, but it won't reconstruct an estimate from an adjuster scope or a screenshot — the scoping conversation stays the source of truth.
  • Measurements from photos: dimensions come from you, not from photo analysis.
  • A public API: Wave isn't built for developers today.

Adjacent capability notes

  • Wave supports the United States and Canada. Regional cost data isn't available outside North America yet. If you're elsewhere and want Wave, tell us; it helps us prioritize.
  • The free trial is 3 estimates with every Basic feature unlocked, with a 5-message follow-up limit after an estimate is completed. See Plans and limits.

Why this list exists

Because the answer to "does Wave do X?" should not be a tour of the homepage. If something you need is on the roadmap, tell us; we ship the things customers actually ask for first.
