What Wave does and doesn't do (yet)
An explicit list of what's in scope today, what's on the roadmap, and what we don't plan to build. Save this page if you find yourself asking 'can Wave do X?' a lot.
Last updated
We get the same set of "does Wave do X?" questions every week. This page is the canonical answer so you don't have to ask.
What Wave does today
- Water losses — Category 1, 2, and 3
- Mold remediation
- Storm losses — wind, hail, and the water mitigation that often follows
- Residential restoration estimating
- Multi-room jobs — per-room interview, per-room line items, per-room photo tagging
- Insurance-grade PDF export — cover page, FNOL block, line items, totals, photos (paid plans only)
- Regional pricing — US ZIP / Canadian postal code lookup, locked to the loss address
- Photo documentation — upload via the right pane or a chat attachment, tag by room, included in the exported PDF
- Team accounts — unlimited users on every paid plan, two roles (Admin / Member)
- Voice-to-text dictation — mic button on the chat, ideal on a phone in the field
What Wave doesn't do yet
Coming soon
- Fire mitigation — fire/smoke loss estimating is on the near roadmap, but not in the product today
- Asbestos — same, on the near roadmap
On the roadmap
- Construction / rebuild estimates — Wave is mitigation-focused today. Rebuild is planned.
- Sketches and floor plans — Wave doesn't generate sketches. You can attach photos; that's it for spatial documentation today.
- Dry logs — IICRC drying logs (moisture readings, equipment runtime, day-by-day) aren't tracked in Wave yet.
Not on the roadmap
- Xactimate ESX export — we export PDF, not ESX.
- PDF or contract analysis on upload — the paperclip in chat accepts photos only. We don't parse PDFs, contracts, or other file types.
- Two-way voice conversations — the mic is voice-to-text dictation, not a live voice agent.
- A public API or developer surface — Wave isn't built for developers. We don't currently offer an API.
Adjacent capability notes
- The free plan caps at 3 estimates total, 5 chat-driven edits per estimate, and no PDF export. See Plans and limits for the full table.
- Pricing is locked to the loss address. Changing the address mid-estimate does not reprice line items. See Wave's regional price list for the gotcha and the fix.
Why this list exists
Because the answer to "does Wave do X?" should not be a tour of the homepage. If something you need is on the roadmap, tell us — we ship the things customers actually ask for first.
If something's not on the roadmap and you think it should be, email hello@buildwithwave.com.
