Status icons

Each estimate shows a status icon: amber pencil for Preliminary, green check for Completed, and an X for Canceled. The status pill in the workspace uses the same vocabulary.

Last updated

Every estimate on the estimates list shows a status icon next to the customer name. The icons make it possible to scan a long list at a glance and know what's where in the workflow.

The three statuses

IconStatusMeaning
Amber pencilPreliminaryBeing built or still editable (the default for new estimates)
Green checkCompletedFinalized, delivered
XCanceledNot pursuing; reversible

The status pill in the estimate workspace uses the same color and icon vocabulary, so once you've learned the icons in one place, you know them in both.

Changing status

Change status from the command palette (⌘K / Ctrl+K), or from the estimates list using the row kebab (⋮) or the bulk bar when you have multiple estimates selected. See Change an estimate's status.

While Wave is still building an estimate, it may update the status itself as work progresses. The app shows a one-time note about this the first time it happens.

Why these three (and not more)

Status answers one question: what should happen to this estimate next? Three categories cover it cleanly:

  • Preliminary: keep working on it
  • Completed: archive, done
  • Canceled: archive, didn't happen

Anything finer (Sent, Approved, In Review) would put Wave in the position of tracking the carrier's workflow, which we don't try to do. If your team needs intermediate states, use line-item notes for the context.
