Xactimate codes on line items

Show or hide the Xactimate Cat, Code and Act columns on an estimate, set your default in Preferences, type a code to find a line, and ask Wave what a code means. Codes come with every paid plan and the free trial.

Wave works with Xactimate. If you or your adjusters think in Xactimate codes, Wave can show them next to each line item, find a line from a code you type, and tell you what a code means.

Show or hide the code columns

On the job's Estimates tab, press X to show or hide the code columns. You can also press ⌘K (Ctrl+K) and choose Show codes or Hide codes.

With codes on, each line gets three extra columns between the description and the quantity:

  • Cat: the Xactimate category
  • Code: the item code
  • Act: the activity

On a phone, each line's card shows its category, code and activity under the description when codes are on. Turn them on with the Preferences setting below.

A line with no Xactimate match, such as a fully custom line, shows a dash where the category and code would be.

Set your default

Open Settings > Preferences and find Industry codes:

  • Hidden: a cleaner view. Codes stay off until you turn them on.
  • Shown: the code columns are visible as soon as an estimate opens.

Pressing X changes the same setting, so whatever you pick carries over to the next estimate you open. Preferences are saved in the browser you're using, so set it once on each computer.

Type a code to add a line

When you add or edit a line, you can type a full Xactimate code into the description instead of words. If Wave carries a matching item, it appears in the autofill suggestions. Pick it and the line lands with Wave's price for the job's region.

Type the whole code. A partial code won't match.

Ask Wave about a code

In the job's chat, ask things like:

"What does [code] mean?"

"What's the Xactimate code for removing wet drywall?"

Wave answers in the chat.

Copy lines with their codes

Select lines on the estimate and press ⌘C (Ctrl+C) to copy them as a table you can paste into a spreadsheet or email. When the code columns are showing, the copy includes them.

Which plans include codes

Xactimate codes on line items come with every paid plan, starting with Starter, and with the free trial. If your company's subscription lapses, the code columns stop showing and Wave won't discuss codes in chat until you're back on a paid plan. See Plans and limits.
